Let your business strategy emerge
Your business strategy and the strategic intents don’t need to be 100% on day one. Strategy is about the things you do today to create your future. That future vision will evolve and emerge over time. Adding too or dropping off a strategic intent is not failure, rather a natural progression in the strategic process. Who knows what the world will look like in five year’s time let alone 10 years plus. The key is not to wait to find out, rather deal with the information at hand today, make the best decisions possible and create your own future.
Ask yourself if what you are doing today is getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow?
Challenge yourself to take a strategic position, communicate it and be prepared to flex as your strategy emerges.
‘If you’re not prepared to be wrong, you’ll never come up with anything original’ – Sir Ken Robinson
From a strategy perspective, actions are all that count. The world’s best strategy hidden away or not actioned is worthless.
We recommend appointing someone to hold leadership to account for taking actions to support the strategic intent with a 3 to 6 monthly check-in. This could be someone within your business who is empowered to hold leadership to account or an independent person. This is not about being lazy or unfocused, just being human. We all need to have an accountability mechanism to ensure our busy work does not always get in the way of the important work.
We believe putting this in place is a sign of confidence and strong leadership.
